Can I ship shoes in their original box?

I am selling some canvas shoes I bought from my local store, and was wondering if I can simply bring them to the post office in the box they came with. I will obviously tape it up, but is this fine?

No. A normal shoe box is not strong enough to travel through the mail. They use automated equipment that can take a toll on the cardboard, so it has to be pretty strong. Besides, you need to put some packing material inside, like loosely crushed newspaper.

Get a bigger, tougher box. If you work in a place that has a photocopier, try to get one of the boxes the copier paper comes in. Those are roomy and strong, and they have good lids. If you can’t find that kind of box, use any big, strong box. Put the shoe box inside and put newspaper or whatever around the shoe box. Good luck!!

Product Review of Adidas CYD Reflex Trainer Tennis Shoe

Every year during this time, when the weather starts getting perfect for tennis, I do what I usually do every new year, and make a list of things related to tennis that I want to do.  Usually, this involves getting in better shape, playing more, getting well enough to play tournaments again etc., etc. etc.  This year almost all of my new year’s resolutions have been broken but I actually have started to do something that I hope will help my tennis game.  I have started taking a once a week plyometric and core training class in order to try and become more explosive on the court.  Since I do work at All About Tennis, it is only natural that I would have to go and get some new shoes in order to help me attain this goal, the Adidas CYD Reflex Trainer!

The CYD Reflex Trainer is a new shoe from Adidas created in conjunction with Andre Agassi, and Agassi’s former trainer, Gil Reyes.  The concept and purpose behind the shoe, is that Andre wanted a shoe that could comfortably transition from the court to the gym and back.  To fulfill his request, Adidas designed him a shoe that is basically a training shoe with a hard rubber sole created for the tennis court.

When you first pick up the Adidas CYD Reflex, most people will find that the shoe is extremely light weight.  This is due in large part to the upper part of the shoe which is made almost entirely of mesh.  The mesh make up of this shoe is one that will work well with our Arizona heat as it will help the shoe to breathe well in those tough summer months.  The upper portion of the shoe also features Adidas’s Speedcut which is essentially strategically placed plastic pieces to help stabilize and support your foot during side to side movement.  There is also a strap across the front portion of the shoe that helps you cinch up the CYD Reflex and get a comfortable supportive fit.

As I stated earlier, the CYD Reflex has a bottom that was designed for the tennis court.  This consists of a large portion of herringbone pattern tread coupled with flat tough areas of Adidas’s Adiwear rubber for durability.  Running throughout the middle of the shoe is the Adidas Torsion bar which adds stability and rigidity to the shoe. As far as the fit of the shoe goes, I find it to be very true to size.  I have read some reviews where testers felt that perhaps it was a half size large, but I will leave it up to personal preference.  The shoe has a medium to medium wide fit with a form fitting feel and good room in the toe box.

In the two months that I have been wearing these shoes, I have used them for a variety of tasks.  First and foremost, they have been used for my Wednesday night plyometric and core-training class.  Since this class is performed on a tennis court, these shoes are well suited to the surface and I actually prefer wearing them to my regular tennis shoes (Adidas CC Genius II) because they are lighter and more breathable.  I have also used these shoes for light hitting after my workouts where we play predominantly rally games.  While the shoes seemed to hold up just fine, I prefer something with a little more support up top to keep me from moving around.  These shoes also are well suited from going to the tennis court to the pavement as I have gone out jogging in them several times.  One thing you might want to consider doing (if you do wind up using them to jog) is putting in some after market insoles.  While I use the stock ones that came with the shoes, I typically prefer a firmer feeling shoe without a ton of cushion.  The CYD Reflex definitely falls into this category.

One attribute of this shoe that I feel has possibly been overlooked is its use as a clay court tennis shoe.  While I prefer something a little more rigid on hard courts, I believe that the CYD Reflex would be well suited for clay courts.  The bottom of the shoe has a wide herringbone pattern which is typically easy to knock clay out of, and the limited durability of the sole shouldn’t be a problem for clay courters.

After wearing and working out in the Adidas CYD Reflex trainer for a good two months, I believe that Adidas has introduced a solid workout shoe that will help tennis players attain their fitness goals.  While it is predominantly a work out shoe, its many attributes find it well suited for play on the tennis court. In fact, players who are not to hard on their shoes may find it a lightweight alternative to traditional tennis shoes.  I plan on continuing to use it as my main workout and light hitting shoe and am interested in exploring its performance on clay courts.

Can I dry tennis shoes by putting them into a clothes dryer?

I’ve got soaking wet tennis shoes – stepped out of my car last night into 10 inches of water. My problem is that I need to use these shoes today. Can I toss them into a regular clothes dryer without melting them? Shrinking them?

Yep you can only not competely a material shoe (a small amount of material won’t matter). Firstly stuff them with dry socks, this will stop them from shrinking, now really stuff them tight, then put them into a pillow case and tie it at the top, this makes sure they don’t get damaged from being thrown around the dryer. Turn it on lowest heat setting, if you don’t have a heat setting just turn it off every 10-15 mins and let them cool for 5.

By the way if they are a completely material shoe forget it, they’ll shrink and loose thier shape, just stuff them wiht newspaper and place on a radiator or in hot press and hope they dry quickly…!

You should be good to go!

Pinot Noir

Cabernet Sauvignon 

Cabernet Sauvignon has a slightly lighter and fruitier taste than Pinot Noir, and introduces playful elements that make it an excellent companion to pasta dishes and exuberant friends. Unlike Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon grows relatively easily, due to the grape’s tough outer skin. Known for its remarkable ability to age into a truly fine wine, the older vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon are especially delicious. The wine gained widespread popularity in the 1980′s, due not only to its availability, but its prestigious status among vino connoisseurs. A great Cab always compliments the food with which it is served, highlighting the delicate flourishes of a dish without overwhelming the food’s underlying notes. Whether served with pasta, beef, or even a simple salad and cheese dish, this wine will delight you while enhancing your culinary experience. 

Syrah 

One of the oldest cultivated red wines, Syrah requires a hot climate to attain ripeness, and as a result tends to be grown only in very specific regions of California and France. Its unusually dark look, which can range into the violet, distinguishes it from other red wines almost as much as its distinctive rich texture. A Syrah is an excellent conversational wine, partly because its taste is so remarkable! With its spicy overtone, Syrah quickly intrigues your taste buds and demands that they experience a slew of visceral textures. Best served with fish or light pastas, a Syrah matures elegantly, and may be drunk to great effect many years after its initial bottling.

How do you prevent white canvas sneakers from discolouring?

Like Jack Purcell and Superga. After a few washes they get a yellowish tint to them. I would’ve tried bleach but there are metal laceholes which the bleach will corrode, plus I’ve heard bleaching can actually make it more yellow. I’ve used a product which you dab onto the white canvas, almost like shoe polish for sneakers, but that makes the sneaker look insanely white, as if I painted them. Anything else that can be done??

Application or IT Environments Management

Application or IT Environments Management service will fall under Application Management as defined in ITIL2 (operational guidance) because it contributes to improving the overall quality of IT Software development and support through the lifecycle. Application Environments Management set encompasses a set of best practices proposed to provide an effective, end to end management service for test software platforms or development environments. The software test bed or development environment could consist of a client server application, Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), middleware, interfaces, daemons, customised processes (written in any software programming language), FTP utilities etc.

Functional test phases such as Unit, Integration, Acceptance, all manner of performance or non functional testing and development phases all require Application Environments.

The primary clients of an Application Environments Management service are Software Project and Test teams.

The service will cater for the following;

• Manage the creation, build, upgrade and support for all test and development Application Environments.
• Clearly defining auditable processes of allocating application environments, multiple bookings or shared usage, code upgrades, service level agreement, support, decommissioning and re-allocation.
• Manage data refreshes, collating test data and assist in the anonimising of production or other sensitive data if necessary.
• Supply, provision and manage all Application Environment Requirements from the Project and Test teams all through the software development cycle of a project.

Application Environments Management is clearly a new and emerging area which has arisen due to the following reasons:

• The increased Application Environment requirements for many companies who have several software projects running at any one time.
• The increased levels of interfacing and connectivity between several systems in most organisations also known as spaghetti. For example in some companies more than thirty systems are interfaced or connected with each other exchanging files and data flows etc and has meant that any changes to one system most times could require a change to many others and then require large numbers of test and development  application environments.
• Increased awareness and more commitment to carrying out rigorous software testing especially with more companies opting to use the Prince 2 methodology and  ITIL Framework

A typical Application Environments Management tool should be able to provide the following services: environments bookings and allocation, manage multiple bookings and re-curring bookings.  Provide reporting on usage, availability, interconnectivity or interfacing environments, utilisation and conflict reporting etc. It must also serve as a repository of all information on an Application Environment to include Host Server names, Hardware Type, Operating System, IP Address and Interfaces if any.

The ideal background for an Application Environments Management personnel could be Software Development, Application or Technical Support, Infrastructure Project Management, Configuration and Release Management etc but must be

exposed to at least the ITIL Framework, Client – Server development, System Architecture/Design, Networks, TCP/IP and Messaging systems etc.

Terminologies defined & explained:

Application Environment – A single test bed or development platform instance of a software application or system that can also be used for all manner of functional and non functional testing or could be the production instance (production environment). It could also be large, medium or small which normally refers to the size of data the RDBMS will be holding depending on the type of testing it is required for.

Integrated Application environments (also known as stripes): More than one application environment connected to each other also communicating with each other and exchanging files and data flows. Connections could be via Microsoft ODBC, via FTP, TCP/IP, daemons, middleware, defined interfaces and database links etc.

Anonimising of data

Anonimising of data refers to the manipulation or transformation of production data held in the RDBMS such as Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, Microsoft Access, DB2 etc to be used in a test or development Application Environment ensuring that for example real names, addresses, date of birth, bank account details and other sensitive information or data is transformed to dummy data.

The data is transformed whilst still maintaining its defining characteristics in a Relational Database Management System table such as character length (Char 25 or Varchar 50) etc to ensure its usage in testing or development is not compromised and that the integrity is maintained. For example a valid name such as John Smith defined as Char 10 will now be updated in the table to become possibly a unique character string XXXXXXYYYY (comprising of ten characters including the space between John and Smith).

Pipe cleaning caters for the all the activities required to be carried out before a test or development environment is handed over to the Test or Project team and includes disk clear down, archiving and purging logs, importing test data, killing off rogue processes, resetting passwords, changing environment settings, end to end connectivity or integration tests to make sure everything is working okay.

Depending on the complexity of the system a checklist of activities may be required and ticked off capturing all the checks and tests that have been completed on an environment or an integrated suite of environments prior to its hand over to a Project or Test team.

Smoke Test
